In 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto released Bitcoin, the first decentralized cryptocurrency on the internet. It is still unknown whether Nakamoto is a single person or a group of people, or if he is even alive anymore, but that was the alias that the creator went by. In 2010, Nakamoto completely disappeared from Bitcoin’s operations after having mined nearly one million bitcoins. Today, if he still possesses this bitcoin, it would be worth almost $60 billion. Soon after Nakamoto disappeared, the cryptocurrency was completely decentralized. Bitcoin began to gain traction in the media, and in 2017, peaked at nearly $20,000 per bitcoin before dropping. A few years later, in late 2020 and early 2021, the price has skyrocketed once again to around $60,000 per bitcoin. More and more people and corporations are buying Bitcoin as investments, and even to purchase certain items.
